Eunice, The topic is fine, but be sure to include the larger topic of how the Taiwan

government policies are being used to increase entrepreneurship in general not

just social entrepreneurship.
And be sure to reference appropriate themes [cases or speakers or articles...]
from this course, and also to show not just the government official point of view or
propaganda; i.e. you should show how the initiatives of the government are being
viewed critically by others [e.g. critical articles in the Taiwanese media that you
translate a quote from, or articles from the Economist or other popular journals.
Thank you for your work in this class.

Taiwans entrepreneurs
Introduction:
Taiwans moved further toward becoming an M-shaped society
in 2007, with both the highest and lowest income-earning segments
in the country growing to new highs, according to a government
statistical report. Noting that the growing gap between rich and poor
is a general world trend, Taiwan was no exception. To improve this
social problem, the government in Taiwan and some non-profit
organizations started to advocate the Social Entrepreneurship
program these 2 years.
Not only focus on the Taiwan Branding into global market, but
also try to solve internal social problems such as reducing the gap
between rich and poor people and inspire the young generation
jump into being entrepreneurs. The Social Entrepreneurship
program is planned to increase the productivity of Taiwan and help
the disadvantage groups keeping their living standard or even

improve it. Through the improvement of whole society, the

government hopes that it can make Taiwan more competitive
internationally and also upgrade the entrepreneurship in Taiwan.
Outline:
1. How does Social Entrepreneurship program work?
2. What are the innovation ideas of this program? The differences
between traditional entrepreneurship and this program in
Taiwan?
3. What are the influences to the young generation and to the
present society? And what is the new entrepreneurship concept
of Taiwans social economy?
4. (Maybe I will add some similarities and differences in Singapore
or Japans entrepreneurship and social situation)
5. The challenges of the new Social Entrepreneurship program.
