High school was one of the biggest time in my life when my literacy narrative was
profoundly shaped. I especially remember my senior year as being an incredible literacy
narrative experience. Throughout my years of school and education, I did not have to read
anything that was too out of the ordinary or too difficult for me. In my English IV class, we
analyzed many Shakespeare readings. Reading Shakespeare was a huge challenge for me
because I couldnt interpret the language. It was very difficult for me to understand any of it.
Luckily I had a whole bunch of assistant in that class. We read mostly every day in class, which
helped my literacy narrative. My teacher made sure that every student had a part in reading, so
she assigned us roles or passages to read out loud. That was a huge help for my understanding of
Shakespeare. Sometimes I would come up with the excuse, I have a sore throat, to get out of
reading. After I got the hang of reading Shakespeare, I enjoyed it, and I wouldnt skip out on
reading. When it came time for tests on Shakespeare, I not only did better than I thought I would
have, I did outstanding.
