Subject: Annotated Bibliography Telework- productivity in the workplace
The topic that was chosen for my research paper is on telework and how it increases
productivity in the workplace. Listed below is an annotated bibliography for sources that
will be used to write my research paper.

Mahler J. (2012). The Telework Divide: Managerial and Personnel Challenges of

Telework.
Referenced from
http://rop.sagepub.com.ezproxy.humber.ca/content/32/4/407.full.pdf+html
In this article by Julianne Mahler, how telework affects employees and the employers is
discussed. Mahler goes into deep detail and states facts based of off studies, of how
telework has increased employee productivity in the workplace over the years. She lets
her reader know how telework has helped businesses and, who has been more
successful doing so.
This source was chosen by my group, as we believed it shared various amounts of
information about telework, and it also gives a clear understanding of what telework is
and how it works. This source would be beneficial in the writing of my paper.

Jones, Jeffrey M. (2015, August 19). In U.S., Telecommuting for Work Climbs to 37%.
In this article by Jeffrey Jones, Telecommuting in the U.S is discussed. His article is
based on his poll that was taken. Jones goes into detail on if Americans think

telecommuters are more productive than other workers. He also discusses the
implications of employers having their employees telecommute.
This was the second source chosen by my group for the research paper because, it
goes more into depth about how the population as a whole feel about the subject.

Coenen, M (2014, August). Workplace flexibility and new product development

performance: The role of telework and flexible work schedules. European Management
Journal.
This article by Marja Coenen, discusses the role of telework and how it affects flexible
work schedules in positive way. One of the many highlights from this article is, how
telework can increase the quality and speed of product development from employees at
certain companies.
This source was chosen because I believe it not only supports the idea of telework but,
it also speaks on a different perspective.

Bailey, Diane E. (2002, June). A review of telework research: Findings, new directions,
and lessons for the study of modern work. Referenced from

This article by Diane Bailey, explains and discusses the way telework has influenced
and changed the way people work. The authors were able to break down the article into

three questions: who participates in telework, why they do, and what happens when
they do?
I enjoyed this article over the rest, mostly because it touches topics that the others did
not. This article gave many great examples of how and why telework work the way it
does.

Swigart, MeLinda L. (2012). Identifying successful telework factors through the study of
the relationship between personality and workplace isolation. Referenced from

This article by MeLinda Swigart, explains how employees will be successful teleworking
based on their personality, and how they cope with working on their own, rather than
being around coworkers. MeLindas article is based off of a study that help identify what
factors are needed in order to be successful in teleworking.
This article was chosen as a source as it determines that not all employees are suited
for telework.

These are the fives sources that were chosen to be used to conduct my research paper,
as well as the group presentation that follows regarding telework.
