Commitment to Success
First, download the PSF#1 PART A TEMPLATE document and save it as PFS Paper # 1, Part A
Last Name, First Name Middle Initial for Fall 2016 (example: PFS Paper # 1, Part A Kerr, Daryl
L. for Fall 2016). Be sure to change the name and section number on the title page before you proceed
with writing Part A of PFS Paper # 1.
Assignment: Create a four-year plan (career map) for your collegiate experience that will help you set
and achieve goals and be committed to success. The purpose of this career map is to help you
realistically set both academic, career-related, and personal goals to make the most of your four years of
college. The career map must be a semester-by-semester-by-summer plan that addresses the following:
1. Goals: Develop a minimum of 10 SMART goals for the next four years of your college life. The
goals should be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time bound. Be sure to
develop goals related to the following areas of your life:
a. Academic
b. Career
c. Financial
d. Health
e. Social
f. Spiritual
g. Activities and Interests
2. Develop a Career Map for college that helps you achieve the minimum 10 goals you have
established for yourself. Instructions include
a. Starting with any AP or transfer course credit you have obtained prior to attending UNC
Charlotte. List these courses under High School AP Courses or Transfer Courses by
semester.
b. Beginning with the first semester you attended UNC Charlotte, list all of the courses you
plan to take for your intended major. This includes General Education, Progression, Core
and Major courses and Non-Business Elective and General Elective courses.
i. Use the information on the Belk College of Business website to map out the
sequence of the courses (visit your specific major Academic Plan of Study at
http://belkcollege.uncc.edu/programs/undergraduate-programs/majors-andconcentrations). List the course prefix, number, and official title (e.g. BUSN 1101
Introduction to Business & Professional Development) of all courses in your
Career Map.
ii. Be sure to pay careful attention to prerequisite courses and when the courses are
offered (Fall, Spring, Summer)
c. Skip one blank line and then begin to list the appointments you have conducted, or will
conduct, with your Belk College of Business Advising and Career Coach
d. List your appointments you have conducted, or will conduct, with your Career Advisor in
the University Career Center (UCC)
e. List events, workshops and other meetings on campus which will develop you personally
and professionally.

i. List the student organizations you have joined, or plan to join, at UNC Charlotte
and in the Belk College, and the meetings you have attended or will attend
ii. List the campus workshops, seminars, and other events you plan to attend each
semester and each year at UNC Charlotte. These should be selected from the
UCAE, UCC, Office of Education Abroad.
f. Be sure to address ways you will learn about, and develop the universal work skills we
discussed in class and in Chapter 4, Managing the Business.
g. Finally, develop a brief list of skills needed for your specific major. Specify how you will
develop these skills.

should not be numbered.
