Chapter on Chess
I have one a lot of things that have shaped me as a person and my literacy story the
biggest one being joining the chess club. I joined the chess club in sixth grade and quickly
learned how to play the game.
The chess club helped me learn a lot of things, one being that I am really good at chess,
another would be respect. When I went to chess tournaments I would often come in first and one
time I remember facing an opponent who cried after I had defeated him. Now I know I did not
work hard at chess but seeing someone cry because I had beaten them at a chess game made me
think that this game that I just played meant more to him than it did for me and I felt ashamed. I
remember thinking that I should have let him win. I learned a very valuable lesson from this and
it was patience. Before this match had happened I only thought about how to end the game
quickly and any way that ended the game the fastest was the one for me.
I now have a great deal of patience I usually never get fed up with people. I apply this to
most of the books I read by keep on going and thinking about how much effort that the author
put into the book. Having this patience and respect allows me to have a more objective view
