Writing Prompt #4
There are a bunch of interesting people in my family but one of the more interesting is
my uncle. His name is Mark Loftin and he has black hair, he is 58 and has a hefty build (not too
big but not really skinny). He has one son named Conner Loftin and his wife died in 2011. I
choose my uncle because of everything he has been through. His wife was named Kristy and she
died from brain cancer. My uncle also went to war in Iraq and when I asked him about it he told
me a story about his friend getting shot in the head. After that I didnt ask anymore. My uncle
works at a hospice where he sees many people pass away. Despite all of this he continues to help
others and raise a great kid.
In my family it has always been normal for them to join the coastguard. My grandpa was
the first and then my dad and uncle were all a part of the coast guard. My uncle was the first to
leave the coast guard but he didnt leave the military he then joined the army and served in Iraq
for 1 term so that he could take of his wife and kid. He is currently going to med school to
become a nurse and has a good job working for a security company. He inspires me to do more
with my life he works out with his son and they both actively participate in local triathlons. He
lives a busy life as a single father and still had time to help me and my brother out. My parents
divorced over the summer and during the separation I had to stay at my uncles house for about
two weeks.

I would describe my uncle as an inspiration to me. He teaches me that things could

always be worse but you have to enjoy the important things in life.
