A. Abstract This Paper is designed and implemented for Mobile phone signal jammer for GSM, CDMA with Dual tone
multi frequency(DTMF) signaling. The jamming device broadcasts an RF signal in the frequency range reserved for cell
phones that interferes with the cell phone signal, which results in a "no network available" display on the cell phone screen.
All phones within the effective radius of the jammer are silenced.

I. INTRODUCTION
Communication jamming devices were first developed and used by military. This interest comes from the fundamental
objective of denying the successful transport of information from the sender (tactical commanders) to the receiver (the
army personnel), and vice-versa. Nowadays, mobile (or cell) phones are becoming essential tools in our daily life. Here
in Jordan, for example, with a rather low population (around 5 million), three main cell phone carriers are available;
namely; Zain, Orange, and Umniah The first two use the GSM 900 system, while the third uses the GSM 1800 system.
Needless to say, the wide use of mobile phones could create some problems as the sound of ringing becomes annoying
or disrupting. This could happen in some places like conference rooms, law courts, libraries, lecture rooms and
mosques. One way to stop these disrupting ringing is to install a device in such places which will inhibit the use of
mobiles, i.e., make them obsolete. Such a device is known as cell phone jammer or "GSM jammer", which is basically
some kind of electronic countermeasure device].
The technology behind cell phone jamming is very simple. The jamming device broadcasts an RF signal in the
frequency range reserved for cell phones that interferes with the cell phone signal, which results in a "no network
available" display on the cell phone screen. All phones within the effective radius of the jammer are silenced. It should
be mentioned that cell phone jammers are illegal devices in most countries. According to the Federal communications
commission (FCC) in the USA: The manufacture, importation, sale, or offer for sale of devices designed to block or
jam wireless transmission is prohibited". However, recently, there has been an increasing demand for portable cell
phone jammers. We should mention that this paper, presented in this report, is solely done for educational purposes [1].

1. Previous Work

The rapid proliferation of mobile phones at the beginning of the 21 st century to near ubiquitous/ever present status
eventually raisedproblems such as their potential use to invade privacy or contribute torampant and egregious academic
cheating. In addition public backlashwas growing against the intrusive disruption cell phones introduced indaily life.
While the olderanalogue mobile phones often suffered fromchronically poor reception and could even be disconnected
by simple interference such as high frequency noise, increasingly sophisticateddigital phones have led to more elaborate
counters. Mobile phone jamming devices are an alternative to more expensive measures against mobile phones, such as
Faraday cages, which are mostly suitable as built in protection for structures. They were originally developed for law
enforcement and the military to interrupt communications by criminals and terrorists. Some were also designed to foil
the use of certain remotely detonated explosives. The civilian applications were apparent, so over time many companies
originally contracted to design jammers for government use switched over to sell these devices to private entities

2. Present Work
The previous research that related to Mobile Phone Jammer is widely used in United Kingdom. There is no company in
Nigeria that provides these mobile phone jammers. This project if implemented in the mosque/church will help avoid
any disruptive while in the mosques. People who are bringing their mobile phones inside the mosque will have the
phone signal jammed, thus, detecting no signal. This Mobile Phone Jammer is using GSM to jam the frequencies.

REALATED WORK

B. Mobile jammer

A mobile phone jammer is an instrument used to prevent cellular phones from receiving signals from base stations.
When used, the jammer effectively disables cellular phones. These devices can be used in practically any location, but
are found primarily in places where a phone call would be particularly disruptive because silence is expected. As with
other radio jamming, cell phone jammers block cell phone use by sending out radio waves along the same frequencies
that cellular phones use. This causes enough interference with the communication between cell phones and towers to
render the phones unusable. On most retail phones, the network would simply appear out of range. Most cell phones use
different bands to send and receive communications from towers (called frequency division duplexing, FDD). Jammers
can work by either disrupting phone to tower frequencies or tower to phone frequencies. Smaller handheld models block
all bands from 800 MHz to 1900 MHz within a 30-foot range (9 meters). Small devices tend to use the former method,
while larger more expensive models may interfere directly with the tower [2] [3].

Figure1. Basic principle of Mobile jammer

The radius of cell phone jammers can range from a dozen feet for pocket models to kilometers for more dedicated units.

The actual range of the jammer depends on its power and the local environment, which may include hills or walls of a
building that block the jamming signal.

Less energy is required to disrupt signal from tower to mobile phone than the signal from mobile phone to the tower
(also
called base station), because the base station is located at larger distance from the jammer than the mobile phone and
that is why the signal from the tower is not as strong. Older jammers sometimes were limited to working on phones
using only analog or older digital mobile phone standards. Newer models such as the double and triple band jammers
can block all widely used systems (CDMA, GSM) and are even very effective against newer phones which hop to
different frequencies and systems when interfered with
1) Jamming Techniques:
There are several ways to jam an RF device. The three most common techniques can be categorized as follows:
1. Spoofing
In this kind of jamming, the device forces the mobile to turn off itself. This type is very difficult to be implemented
since the jamming device first detects any mobile phone in a specific area, then the device sends the signal to disable the
mobile phone. Some types of this technique can detect if a nearby mobile phone is there and sends a message to tell the
user to switch the phone to the silent mode (Intelligent Beacon Disablers).
2. Shielding Attacks
This is known as TEMPEST or EMF shielding. This kind requires closing an area in a faraday cage so that any device
inside this cage can not transmit or receive RF signal from outside of the cage. This area can be as large as buildings, for
example.
4.Denial of Service
This technique is referred to DOS. In this technique, the device transmits a noise signal at the same operating frequency
of the mobile phone in order to decrease the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the mobile under its minimum value. This
kind of jamming technique is the simplest one since the device is always on. Our device is of this type.

2) Design Parameters
Based on the above, our device which is related to the DOS technique is transmitting noise on the same frequencies of the two
bands GSM 900 MHz, and GSM 1.8 GHz (known also as DCS 1800 band). We focused on some design parameters to
establish the device specifications. These parameters are as follows:
1. The distance to be jammed (D)
This parameter is very important in our design, since the amount of the output power of the jammer depends on the area that
we need to jam. Later on we will see the relationship between the output power and the distance D.+ Our design is established
upon D=10 meters for DCS 1800 band and D=20 meters for GSM 900 band.
2. The frequency bands

C. Dual-tone multi-frequency signaling

Dual-tone multi-frequency signaling (DTMF) is used for telecommunication signaling over analog telephone lines in the
voice-frequency band between telephone handsets and other communications devices and the switching center. The version of
DTMF that is used in push-button telephones for tone dialing is known as Touch-Tone. It was developed by Western Electric
and first used by the Bell System in commerce, using that name as a registered trademark. DTMF is standardized by ITU-T
Recommendation Q.23. It is also known in the UK as MF4.

One of the few production telephone DTMF keypads with all 16 keys, from an Autovon Telephone. The column of red
keys produces the A, B, C, and D DTMF events.

Cell Phone Jammer Circuit Explanation:

If you understand the above circuit, this circuit analysis is simple and easy. For any jammer
circuit, remember that there are three main important circuits. When they are combined together,
the output of that circuit will work as a jammer. The three circuits are
1. RF amplifier.
2. Voltage controlled oscillator.
3. Tuning circuit.

So the transistor Q1, capacitors C4 & C5 and resistor R1 constitute the RF amplifier circuit. This
will amplify the signal generated by the tuned circuit. The amplification signal is given to the
antenna through C6 capacitor. Capacitor C6 will remove the DC and allow only the AC signal
which is transmitted in the air.

When the transistor Q1 is turned ON, the tuned circuit at the collector will get turned ON. The
tuned circuit consists of capacitor C1 and inductor L1. This tuned circuit will act as an oscillator
with zero resistance.

This oscillator or tuned circuit will produce the very high frequency with minimum damping. The
both inductor and capacitor of tuned circuit will oscillate at its resonating frequency.

The tuned circuit operation is very simple and easy to understand. When the circuit gets ON, the
voltage is stored by the capacitor according to its capacity. The main function of capacitor is to
store electric energy. Once the capacitor is completely charged, it will allow the charge to flow

through inductor. We know that inductor is used to store magnetic energy. When the current is
flowing across the inductor, it will store the magnetic energy by this voltage across the capacitor
and will get decreased, at some point complete magnetic energy is stored by inductor and the
charge or voltage across the capacitor will be zero. The magnetic charge through the inductor will
decreased and the current will charge the capacitor in opposite or reverse polarity manner. Again
after some period of time, capacitor will get completely charged and magnetic energy across the
inductor will be completely zero. Again the capacitor will give charge to the inductor and
becomes zero. After some time, inductor will give charge to capacitor and become zero and they
will oscillate and generate the frequency.

This circle run upto the internal resistance is generated and oscillations will get stop. RF amplifier
feed is given through the capacitor C5 to the collector terminal before C6 for gain or like a boost
signal to the tuned circuit signal. The capacitors C2 and C3 are used for generating the noise for
the frequency generated by the tuned circuit. Capacitors C2 and C3 will generate the electronic
pulses in some random fashion (technically called noise).

The feedback back or boost given by the RF amplifier, frequency generated by the tuned circuit,
the noise signal generated by the capacitors C2 and C3 will be combined, amplified and
transmitted to the air.

Cell phone works at the frequency of 450 MHz frequency. To block this 450MHz frequency, we
also need to generate 450Mhz frequency with some noise which will act as simple blocking
signal, because cell phone receiver will not be able to understand to which signal it has been
received. By this, we can able to block the cell phone signal from reaching the cell phones.

So here in the above circuit, we generated the 450 MHz frequency to block the actual cell phone
signal. Thats what the above circuit will act as a jammer for blocking the actual signal.

Conclusion

Every technology has good aspect as well as bad aspect the important thing is ,how we are using
it.Cell phone jammers are very useful to the society from the anti social elements. We can save our national
leaders, we can restrict the communication network between the anti social elements by using the cell phone
jammers. Cell phone jammers prevent the students from carrying cell phones to the colleges. As every thing
goes fine, it is very necessary to implement in all the colleges.
