The Mongols
Groups of people who lived in Mongolia, which is north of
China, were called the Mongols.
They were organized into tribes and known for doing 2
things incredibly well.
1. Riding horses: which they learned to do around the age of
4-5.
2. Waging war: could fire an arrow accurately while on
horseback and fight with a sword/spear also.
Genghis Khan
He was born to a blacksmith and quickly rose in the ranks
of the Mongols.
He united the Mongol tribes together and created a new
law code for his people.
His army was the best in the world with 100,000 soldiers,
divided into groups and led by officers who are capable
leaders.
He used to terror to become a very successful conqueror.
People were so afraid of him and his troops they gave up
without fighting.
The Mongol Empire
When Genghis Khan died his 4 sons split up the empire and
continue to conquer more and more land.
They control an empire that stretches from the Pacific
Ocean to the Middle East including Baghdad.
The Muslims stop the Mongol expansion in Egypt in 1260.
Mongols adopt customs and ideas from their conquered
people such as Islam in Asia and gunpowder from the
Chinese.
