The Secular Scoop: the Truth Behind Pop Music

By: Rachel Napierskie

The experience will be all in all a mashup/remix station. There will be various buttons
displayed on the table with three different colors. For each colored wire, there is a loop from a
popular song, and all of the colors have different songs having the same key signature and
structure. When a wire is hooked up to the color coordinated button and pressed, that loop will
play. Multiple buttons can be pressed at the same time creating a mashup of different, but similar
songs. The other colors will represent a different chord. Red will be chord progression I, green
will be chord progression IV, and blue will be chord progression V. This way no matter what, all
of the buttons can be pushed at some point to create a structured mashup song. The songs are
also arranged on these loops so that they do not clash. The key aspects are to teach how many
songs have the same form and how there are so many different possibilities to music.
