Methods
(Pedagogy)
How will you teach this lesson? What methods will you use?
This lesson will be delivered through 4 stages using various pedagogical
approaches.
First I will use a instructionist approach by defining metaphors and
presenting the following example of using metaphors to explain
personalities:
Monologue: 10 things to describe myself in metaphor
Next I will use the cognitivist, constructionist and connectivist approaches
through scaffolding some original examples and providing the following
worksheet to work through:
Metaphor and Simile: About You
This worksheet will allow students to make connections amongst previously
provided examples and examples from the worksheet, to construct their
own examples. It will also clarify the difference between similes and
metaphors
Then I will use the connectivist approach and have students exchange
comments or suggestions with at least two classmates.
Finally I will use the constructionist approach by introducing students the
project. Students will be required to choose an object or animal that will be
used a metaphor to introduce themselves. They will be given a choice
between using Google Slides or SimpleBooklet (from Google Drive Apps) to
create a short presentation illustrating the metaphor. Example use for each
tool will be provided, and connecting SimpleBooklets to the Google Suit will
also be demonstrated for those interested in using it. This presentation will
be used to supplement a short in class talk. Students will be asked to submit
the script of the talk with the presentation, as the presentation is only a
visual illustrative supplement to the talk (it is not meant to contain the
script).

The iPads will have iTunesU installed so students can access their resources
conveniently. Students will use their schools Google Suite account to create
their presentations. They can choose between using the already existing
Google Slides app or connecting the SimpleBooklet app to their Google
Suites. Student may choose to use cliparts from the media libraries or take
pictures of their own work to add to their presentations.
Presentations will be submitted to the iTunesU class page. They will then be
presented to the class during the talks using the interactive white boards.
ITunesU is a free learning management system created by Apple inc. I can
post assignments and resources, accepts assignments submissions and
grade within iTunesU.
SimpleBooklet is also a free application that can be connected to Google
Suites. Users must be at least 13 years in age unless supervised by an adult
or teacher. All content created on SimpleBooklet is confidential and solely
owned by the creator unless published by the creator. Using this technology
will require FOIP consent from parents.
What is your desired outcome for this activity?
Students will create a short presentation to supplement their talk. It is not
intended to be very comprehensive or contain the entire script of the talk. It
will rather, be used to highlight key phrases of the talk, and illustrate those
key features. Students will not be assessed on the artistic quality of
illustrations; they will rather be assessed on the relevance of illustrations to
the metaphor and its qualities that are being compared to their own
personalities.

Instructionism:
Students will be given the definition of metaphor along with multiple
examples.
Cognitivism and Connectionism:
Students will further explore the concept by building on their prior
knowledge and making connections while completing the worksheets.
Constructionism:
Students will learn through creating and sharing their own work.

Evaluate
and Revise
Briefly reflect on the lesson below. Discuss what went well, and
what can be revised for next time.
Positive and negative points will be noted during the presentations. Overall
evaluation will be completed after completions of the lesson.
Go over your formative assessment data. What does it tell you
about what and how kids learned in your lesson? Did the lesson
meet the goals of the learning objectives? Why or why not?
Positive and negative points will be noted during the presentations. Overall
evaluation will be completed after completions of the lesson.
