Following are the steps taken in the planning and preparation to
provide an educational, enjoyable and most importantly safe trip for
students and staff involved:
1.10 Medical details of each student at the commencement of
the trip will be supplied by trip. Details of any special
conditions required will be brought to the leaders attention
from
school
staff
members.
1.11 The school will provide each student with a list detailing
the required equipment for the trip. The equipment will be
checked by the group leaders at the commencement of the
trip to ensure students are adequately prepared for all
conditions. Some spares will be carried by leaders otherwise
school staff representatives are carrying spares and will be
contacted to negotiate a rendezvous. See Appendix M,
Clothing and personal equipment list for the student
equipment list.
1.12 Print four day forecast of weather, forecast district and
synoptic chart, from Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) this can be
carried and shared within the group and discussed if
significant conditions predicted or occurring. Updates via
smart phone could occur at night discreetly. Monitor for
severe weather warnings making appropriate judgments in
relation to wind speed tree safety as well as lightening.

to follow leaders
instructions and be
vigilant.
Strict supervision is essential
while walking on Mt Kooyoora
and across the Western Ridge,
safety strategies will include:
Walking in single file with
one leader with the lead
participant and the other
at the rear of the group.
The group will be kept
close together
Students will be notified of
upcoming hazards and
safety strategies put in

students are aware of toileting
and hygiene procedures as well
as all potential hazards at camp.
A cooking circle will be utilised to
maximise supervision of all
students and ensure they are
using trangias safely and eating

4.0Emergencycontingencyplan
Contingency PlansWhen dealing with unplanned situations it is imperative that the whole
group is managed effectively. These situations can become stressful
and its highly advantageous to have a planned system in place to deal
with them (Brown, 1999). Below are different scenarios which cover the
majority of situations that could arise during the trip.
