Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory condition of the unit pilosebaseus that
occurs in adolescents and young adults. Increased hormones before menstruation
can affect exacerbation and aggravate acne vulgaris. The hormone progesterone
can cause stimulation the activity of the sebaceous glands in women. The purpose
of this study was to know relationship between the regularity of the menstrual
cycle with the occurrence of acne vulgaris on the female university students in
Faculty of Medicine Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya University class of 2011. This
research was analytic observational that used cross-sectional design and it was
located in Faculty of Medicine, University of Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya. Samples
used were 95 female university students in Faculty of Medicine, University of
Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya class of 2011 using simple random sampling. Data
retrieved using questionnaires distributed. The results were analyzed by chisquare test. The results of this study were p = 0.071, it means there is no
significant relationship between regularity of the menstrual cycle with the
occurrence of acne vulgaris on the female university students in Faculty of
Medicine, University of Wijaya Kusuma Surabaya class of 2011 ( <0.05)
