October 23rd
Objective: Students will be able to summarize the reasons why individual went to
the New World despite its dangers.
Technology: Students will be using Thinglink on their netbooks to scavenge
information as to why certain colonies were created. Also students will
independently write various journals after watching selected videos on the colony of
Jamestown.
Assessment: Students will write a letter as if they are a colonist in Jamestown back
to their families in England. They will describe the benefits colonists enjoyed their in
this letter.
October 24th:
Refer to Formal lesson plan.
October 25th
Objective: Students will clarify the impact of religion on the Plymouth colony and
the Puritans.
Technology: Students will post how religion impacts their lives on the board via
PollEv.com to start a discussion on its impact.
Assessment: Students will write a journal describing the hardships faced by the
Puritans in England and why the New World would be more appealing.
October 26th
Objective: Students will differentiate the motivations of creating the colonies in New
England and in the South.
Technology: Students will be assessed using the SMART Vortex activity identifying
items that belong to either the New England colonies or the Southern colonies.
Assessment: After the SMART vortex activity, students will draw out commonalities
between the items in each region. Then students will conclude whether most of
these items are more political, economic, or religious.
