Group Charter
To: Dr. Leslie Bruce
From: Tech No Logic (Team #3)
Subject: iFixit Group Charter
Date: September 19, 2016
Mission Statement
iFixits mission is to conserve the environment by providing the general population with
simple, easy-to-follow repair guides. Tech No Logics mission is to create a repair guide on iFixit
for an Acer Aspire laptop and thus empower the general population to minimize their e-waste. In
creating our repair guide, not only will we help iFixits environmental mission, but we will also
strengthen our technical writing skills. Our team will research, work together, physically repair a
laptop, and write concisely. For example, we modeled this memo off the information found in
Markels Practical strategies for technical communication, which provided our group with
experience on professional correspondence (2016). We also implemented a conflict resolution
following Amy Ohlendorfs article on conflict resolution (2001). Holly Steininger, as project
manager, will distribute the workload fairly between team members, enforce project deadlines,
and transport the Acer laptop when necessary. Connie Garcia and Susan Cao, as research
managers, will gather credible sources of information and participate in writing the guide.
Connie will also photograph the laptop with her personal Canon camera. Steven Loon, as
editing manager, will draft and revise the guide for organizational purposes, and transport the
repair kit tools. Our team will complete the repair guide collaboratively in order to prevent the
workload from falling unfairly on any one member.

Communication
Each group member is expected to respond within four hours of a message or email.
Every member must inform the group three hours in advance if they will be late or
unable to attend a meeting. Meetings will be held on Mondays at 11 am in the Pollok
Library on the dates identified by the timesheet.
Conflict Resolution
To avoid destructive conflict, our team will adhere to the following procedure, based
off of Amy Ohlendorfs article on conflict resolution (2001).
1. Determine issue of conflict
2. Listen carefully to each issue first before interrupting
3. Listen with the intention of understanding a group members point
of view
4. Ask questions to gain better insight on the conflict
5. Provide appropriate responses
6. Explore different options to come to a solution
Firing Clause
We will adopt a three-strike policy regarding meeting attendance:
1. Warning issued
2. Written Excuse required
3. Fired
