Over the past 40 years, the representation of women

in the Florida Legislature has increased. After losing
a seats in the 2014 election, women still make up a
quarter of the states legislature. Since 1975, when
there was only 13 women in the Congress, there has
been a 16.9% increase in the number of women
representing Floridians in the state legislature.
Women make up 51.1% of Floridas population and
25% of the states legislative body.* Floridas Senate
is made of 40 members and the House has 120
members. There currently sits 12 female senators
and 28 female representatives, which makes Florida
ranked 24th among the states in proportion of
women. The national average for the nations state
legislatures is 24.6%.
