Learner Profile: Students are 11-12 years old. The students are accustomed with communicative
activities and enjoy expressing their opinion freely. They also enjoy singing songs as part of a
teaching activity.
Class: 5 C 4h/week (L1)

Unit: 6 -Birds of a FeatherType of lesson: Teaching something new

Aims: At the end of the lesson, students should be able:

To make sentences using the new vocabulary: to weigh, to lay eggs, thick feathers, fur,
fins, wings, mane, mammal, reptile, paw, beak, sharp claws, whiskers, pouch and eagle.
To listen the audio text on the CD and to state whether some sentences are true or false.
To describe a picture using the known vocabulary.
To use in context the appropriate features with the specific animal(lion, parrot, dolphin,
penguins, eagle, tiger, kangaroo)
To extract certain information from a written text given in the textbook (pag 40).

Materials: Grammar Book, Course Book, CD, DVD, blackboard, chalk

Activity
Greeting. Checking the homework from Grammar Book (ex 13,
pag. 21 )
T asks Ss to describe the four pictures from page 40(A, B, C and
D), using the known vocabulary. Then they are invited to
describe the animals, using specific vocabulary: birds vs
mammals, fur vs. feathers vs. skin, fins vs. wings, tail, legs or
mane. Ss also have to specify if the animals do fly, run or swim.

T asks Ss to read the sentences from exercise 2 and then T plays


the audio text from the CD. The SS task is to mark the sentences
as true(T) or false(F).

T asks Ss to read carefully the text from exercise 3 and to find


synonyms for the words in bold. Then T asks Ss the meaning of
the words in bold. T asks SS to answer the questions from
exercise 5, point c).
T asks students to move to the page 41 to exercise 3 and to
complete the table with the needed information. Then Ss are
asked to make three sentences with the similarities and
differences between dolphins and penguins.

T asks Ss to look at the exercise 4, page 41, and match the word
with the picture and say from which category the animal is:
reptiles, mammals, insects, and birds.
T asks Ss to read carefully the list of words from exercise 5, page
41, and then label the parts of animals bodies using the words:
paws, feather, fur, tail, beak, ears. T asks Ss to name the animals
after finishing the first part of the exercise.
Practice
Ss are asked to look at the exercise 6, page 41. Ss will fill in the

look, parts, thick. T divides class in two that a half of them will
make sentences with the first 5 words and the another half of Ss
with the rest of the words. T asks Ss to read loudly their
sentences.
