Discussion on PCV from Linkind

To my idea the PCV is oversized, if the normal flow is 500 mmscfd, then the max
flow should be 550 mmscfd and for this flow the PCV should be 80% open. So
100% open PCV is then production flow of about 700 mmscfd.
Maybe you should replace the PCV by a smaller orifice, and therefore the relief
flow via the relief valve can be limited to 700 mmscfd.
The PCV should be sized for the normal flow = 500 mmscfd
maximum process flow is 110% of normal flow = 550 mmscfd
At 110% process flow the PCV should be 80% open (for controllibility)
PCV fully open (100% open) flow may be then 700 mmscfd
turndown process flow 50% of normal flow is 250 mmscfd
Minimum controllable process flow is PCV 10% open = 70 mmscfd
In this way you should have a well operating PCV.
If in your case the max flow in PCV full open position produces 1200 mmscfd,
then the valve is oversized, resulting in high capacity PSV relief flows.
If you must buy or you have installed a standard size PSV, then the initiating
relief flow may be much higher than the 1200 mmscfd
