STANDARD LESSON PLAN FORMAT


I.

Describe the Class


5th grade classroom 29 students. 1 student with IEP.

II.

Objective(s)
Students will use the most appropriate unit of length to the nearest , ,
1/8. Students will be able to measure lengths using different systems and
using different units of measurement. Students will understand the smaller the
unit of measurement, the more accurate the measurement gets.

III.

Procedures
As a whole class, teacher will present a visual model of the lesson. Teacher
will model with class participation on how to find the nearest measurement to
, , 1/8.
Teacher will then present the Problem of the Day. Teacher will then use
cooperative learning model learning together to break students down into
groups of 4-5. Student groups will work together to solve the Problem of the
Day using their knowledge on the topic and with the use of their measuring
tools and turn in their work product to teacher. Groups will be awarded based
on the work turned in.
Students will then work independently on a worksheet with measurement
problems. Students will turn in worksheet for evaluation by the teacher.

Grouping Structures
Students to engage in whole group discussion with teacher for direct
instruction.
Students will break into groups of 4-5 students each predetermined by teacher.
Students will work independently on worksheet for teacher evaluation

Modifications
IEP student to work in group that will offer most support chosen by teacher.

VII.

Assessment
Teacher will assess students broad understanding of topic during whole group
discussion and after working through basic concepts like the units of
measurement, the appropriate terms, and sample measurements done together.
Teacher will assess their problem solving skills as a group based on the work
product they submit as a team.
Teacher will assess students topic understanding individually by evaluating
their independent worksheet.
