The BPI-DOST Science Awards gives recognition and incentives to students who excel
in specialized fields of science namely: mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering,
computer science, and biology.
The selection criteria is provided by the BPI Foundation and the Science Awards
Committee to ensure that nominees are highly qualified based on the selected
guidelines:
Criteria for Qualification:
1. An awardee must be a Filipino citizen and must be studying in any of the
following accredited universities:

1.2. Ateneo de Davao University
1.3. De La Salle University
1.4. St. Louis University
1.5. UP Diliman
1.6. UP Los Banos
1.7. University of San Carlos
1.8. University of Santo Tomas
1.9. Xavier University

2. An awardee must be a regular graduating student majoring in any of the
following fields:

3. The awardees project must be approved and completed within the Summer or
the 1st semester or 2nd term of the Schools Academic Year.
4. An awardee must have a consistent outstanding record, leadership potential and
research accomplishment in his chosen field. Therefore, the BPI Science Awards
Committee has provided the corresponding weights for each of the following
standards: Academic Performance 20%; Leadership Potential 20%; and
Research Project 60%.

Required Documentation:
The following forms will provide the documentation to determine if the students qualify
for the competition:
1. A duly signed certification by the College Secretary or College Registrar verifying
that the awardee is a bonafide student of the University, and is majoring in any
one of the priority science fields. This is in keeping with Qualification Criteria
Nos. 1 & 2.
2. A duly signed certification by the Dean of Student Affairs/School Guidance
Counselor verifying that the student has not been subjected to disciplinary
action, administrative charges, suspension or conduct unbecoming of a college
student. This will ensure that the student qualifies in criteria No. 5.
3. A certified true copy of grades as evidence for the criterion on academic
performance. The awards and selection committee at the school level will
calculate grade point average, and determine if there are any failing grades.
4. A duly signed certification by the Dean of Student Affairs indicating that the
student holds membership to a curricular or non-curricular/academic or nonacademic organization, either as an active member or officer.

1. Copies of the new Science Awards selection criteria and Science Awards
nomination forms shall be sent by BPI Foundation, Inc. to all participating
schools.
2. The participating schools, through their honors and awards committee,
will select three (3) nominees for the BPI-DOST Science Awards, using
the guidelines and new criteria hereby published in this document.
3. Nominations should be made on the prescribed form and duly signed by
the nominee and school selection committee members, and further
endorsed by the College Dean and School President.
4. The nomination form, personal profile form and other supporting
documents, such as transcript of records, certifications signed by the
Dean of the College, citations, brief description of the thesis/research
paper of nominees must be submitted by the school to BPI Foundation,
Inc. on or before November 07, 2014.
5. The final list of awardees recommended/submitted by the school is
forwarded to BPI Foundation for review and confirmation by the BPI
Science Committee, which is composed of senior officers of the Bank.
6. All awardees are required to have a presentation discussing their project
paper to the benefactor (BPI, BPI Foundation, DOST) during the
awarding proper. Only the duly recognized project/research paper
confirmed by the BPI Foundation and Science Committee will be
presented.
7. The thesis/research paper written in accordance with the standard format
(Annex A), provided by the Department of Science and Technology
Science Education Institute must be submitted on or before January 09,
2015.
8. The awarding ceremonies for the BPI-DOST Science Awards for each
school is scheduled during the months of February, March, April and
May.

1. All sections from Acknowledgements to Abstract should be numbered in Roman
numerals (i, ii, iii, iv, etc.) at the bottom centre of the page.
2. All other pages should be numbered with Arabic numbers (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.)
3. Appendices should not be paginated.
Length of Write-Up
1. The maximum length of the write-up should not be more than 15,000 words.
2. The Abstract section should be limited to 200 words.
3. The Introduction should not exceed 10% of the whole project write-up.
Typing and Format
1. The entire write-up must be typed on white A4 paper double-spaced, using Times New
Roman font and font size of 12 points.
2. Page margin on the left side should be 3.5 cm, while all other sides should be 2.5 cm.
3. The References section should be single spaced.
4. Tables and Figures should be properly labelled and should use sans serif type face.
Submission
1. Two ring-bound hardcopies of the project (with double sided printing); and
2. a PDF electronic copy must be submitted by the stipulated deadline.
