HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIROMENTS (HSE) RULES AND REGULATION IN


WORKSHOP.

A. OBJECTIVES

The objectives of this unit are following:


1.

Apply HSE rules and regulation during workshop activity.

2.

Understand the importance of PPE.

B. EQUIPMENT
Helmet, safety shoes, goggle, face shield, gloves, hearing protection etc.
C. INTRODUCTION
Personal Protective Equipment or PPE is one of the widely used control measure at
the workplace at all sizes of industries. Also, it is one of the most well spend safety
and help budget in organization. Although it is used as a last resort, but in certain
workplaces it is found to be important such as in handling pesticides/chemical or
engineering work. The current practices in PPE selections, usage and maintenance
will be highlighted. PPE can protect the person from the accident that might occur
in workplaces.
PPE can be divided into two category namely active protection gear/equipment
and passive protection gear/equipment. The former is used to protect the wearer
in an active way preventing severe injuries for an active protection e.g. helmet,
safety shoes, goggle, face shield, gloves, hearing aid protection, signage etc. while
the latter reduce severity degree of injuries/accident which have taken place and
prevent further spread worsening it e.g. fire extinguisher, eye washer and first aid
kit. Both category of PPE has their own specific function to protect people and
prevent/reduce injuries during working in workplace such as laboratory,
Industrial park and Chemical related Plants. Following is the examples of both
