Freire

By Andrew Francis

Freires style of writing almost is like a demonstration. By relating the audience with
scenarios such as four times four is sixteen;the capital of Para Belem. The student records,
memorizes, and repeats these without perceiving what four ties four means. With these
scenarios the reader can visualize, relate, and understand the point that freire is pounding into
their heads. Now I say pounding because in a text format he really makes it obvious that he
believes the way teachers teach is bland and dull. Infact, Freire states The teacher talks about
reality as if it were a motionless static, compartmentalized and predictable. Freire calls this
filling in the students with information that they need for a test. Although he does not say this
directly but I believe that is what he is trying to say, saying that teachers fill the empty spots
their students have. Speaking of students, the audience in which Freire is trying to reach out
cannot be students it has to be the teachers. Freire is constantly pointing teachers to the way they
talk about reality as if it were motionless, static, compartmentalized and predictable. Freire, if
his was to talk to the students, he would talk more about the students view of a teacher's
teachings. Instead he critiques the way a banker teachers teaches. It is critiquing because he
states what teachers are doing and then he says a solution of a change to the banking system.
His target is the teachers and not the students. To him that students are the victims of a crime of
education and freire is uncovering the culprit.
