This document discusses predicting acid mine drainage (AMD) from coal mining waste dumps in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. It analyzes site investigations and laboratory tests of AMD and the relationship between waste dump configurations and AMD generation. Models and site characterization methods are investigated for AMD prediction. Acid-generating and neutralizing rock types are identified from mine sites. Total sulfur content is analyzed as an AMD generation factor. Geochemical data from study areas is presented. Preventing or reducing AMD during mining requires measures against potential AMD factors, especially from waste dumps as AMD sources.

A CASE STUDY OF COAL MINING IN KALTIM PRIMA COAL COMPANY,
SANGATTA, EAST KALIMANTAN, INDONESIA Chairul Salam Ph.D., Department of Mining Engineering Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Orhan Kural ABSTRACTION Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) is a unit of the dangerous difficulty environmental problem induced in the mining cognitive process and affect on the environment referable to low-level pH. Dealing the reality that the waste dump site with sulphide minerals is a big stockpiling reserve of dissipation contaminant and it is unprotected to the topical circumstance environmental condition, this region preserve to be the origin generator of AMD. It is significant to avoid the presence of AMD from waste dump site supposing it. This dissertation will be trying to analysis the outcome of site research work and laboratory investigation about AMD and cover the applicability between the spatial relation construction of waste dump site and the alteration of AMD to apply general acknowledged apparatus as the prediction of AMD potential for coalmine development. This subject area implies assessment of geochemistry, mineralogy, geological data, static tests data, and kinetic tests data acquired from the Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) Company site. Illustration models and schematic measuring characterization site will be investigated for AMD prediction function. Acid generating and neutralizing lithologies will be demonstrated from the mine site investigation. Total sulfur materials observation will be analyzed as the aspect for AMD generation. Geochemical data will be exposed in the study area. During the cognitive process stage, to prevent or decrease AMD, it is necessary to conduct measure against AMD potential factors as protection or means of defense especially from the the waste dump site as the AMD sources origin. Key Words: Acid Mine Drainage, Static Test, Kinetic Test, Environmental, KPC
