Over Jerry!
This high-tempo rocker in the style of Jerry Lee Lewis is a veritable comucopia of rock “n’ roll
techniques, licks, and effects, The classic intro is a great chance for you to shine, bat make sure
that all your solo licks are totally secure—this is not a good place to make a mistake! The inter-
play between the right and left hands is crucial; the two parts should really bounce of each other
‘There are glissandos all over the place in this tune, so make sure you've got your fingering sorted
out before you attempt them, When practicing before a gig, you might want to leave the glisses
out to prevent wrecking your hands, and only put them in again when you're really going for it
Jerry's trademark eighths are also in evidence here—look out for the sections where they speed
up into triplets, and be sure to keep your wrist and arin relaxed. The same goes for the sixteenth:
note phrases towards the end of the song.
‘This song has more stops and starts than a bus route, so make sure you know where they all are.
Look out too for the guitar and tenor sax solos—they provide an ideal opportunity to gather your
breath hefore the next section. ‘The descending runs in burs 51 and 71 are easier than they look.
Practice them separately and slowly and work out your fingering carefully, and you should be OK.
Once again, there’s a slower version of this track on the CD, so don’t panic if you can’t manage it
at full speed!
