The Troy School District celebrated Diversity and Inclusion Day Tuesday, Dec. 13, after a contentious presidential election season. Katarina Tasich, a third-grader at Troy Union Elementary School, wrote an essay against bullying, which she read to a kindergarten class. She asked that everyone in school wear black on Tuesday, Dec. 13, to "black out bullying." Her idea spread to a number of elementary schools in the district. Every school in the district observed the special day. Some encouraged students to sit next to someone they didn't know at lunch. At others, students signed a banner pledging to accept and include others and received a wristband that said "Celebrate Diversity."
