List the steps in the classic forecasting model and the respective results
produced by each step. Name at least two methods/models used in each step.
(15 points)
4. A highway curve has been designed according to AASHTO criteria that assumes
the drivers eye level is 1070mm (3.5) and that the object in the roadway is
150mm (6) above the pavement. The design speed is 100 kph and the
algebraic difference in grades is 3.0%. Suppose the car manufacturers changed
the eye level to be 914 mm (3.0), what would be the implications regarding the
design of the curve? (20 points)
5. A -1.65% grade intersects a -0.45% grade on a high speed main railroad track.
What is the minimum length of vertical curve in meters? Sketch and label the
curve. Vertical Curve Criteria show that the maximum rate of change of gradient
in percent per meter for high-speed main tracks is 0.00164 in sags, and
0.00328 on crests. (15 points)
6. Check whether the proposed longitudinal grade design below conforms to the
requirements of the FAA. The vertical curve is 488m long and the second is
305m long. Use the Airplane Design Group VI and Approach Category D. (20
points)
