CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION

A toaster, or a toast maker, is a small electric appliance designed to

brown sliced bread by exposing it to radiant heat, thus converting it into
toast. Toasters can toast multiple types of sliced bread products. With the
introduction of an automatic mechanism to stop the toasting and flips over
by itself. Toaster ovens have a hinged door in the front that opens to allow
food to be placed on a rack, which has heat elements above and below the
grilling area.
Toaster ovens function the same as a small-scale conventional oven. Toaster
ovens typically have settings to toast bread and a temperature control for
use of the appliance as an oven. Most are large enough to heat up a slice of
pizza or a burrito and some larger models can be used to bake a small
casserole.

The word "toaster" was formed from the word "toast", which means "sliced
bread singed by heat. Before the development of the electric toaster, sliced
bread was toasted by placing it in a metal frame or on a long-handled
toasting-fork and holding it near a fire or over a kitchen grill. Simple utensils
for toasting bread over open flames appeared in the early 19th century. The
first electric bread toaster was invented by Alan McMasters in Edinburgh,
Scotland in 1893. The primary technical problem at the time was the
development of a heating element which would be able to sustain repeated
heating to red-hot temperatures without either breaking or becoming too
brittle.

1.1 Objectives

The aim of improving the pancake toasters by adding some feature to it are
such as:

1. To save time for producing the pancakes using manual toaster. Instead
our product makes the pancakes automatically.

2. Helps to save cost of hiring workers if involved in business such as

bakery shop or stalls besides road. Using our product to make
pancakes will eliminate the need of manpower / staff.

3. Able to produce multiple pancakes in a short amount of time

automatically without any supervision of human.

4. The productions of pancakes will not be disturbed or influenced by

environment or surroundings, because machines are arent humans
that are emotional and have sensory organ to feel heat or cold. Hence,
its absolutely efficient to use and practice.

CHAPTER 2
PROBLEM STATEMENT PROCESS
2.1

Problem Statement
Pancake Toasters in general is being used in a daily basis to provide

breakfast or even high teas, however there are also some improvements that
can be done by adding some features to it to make it more efficient and
hence consumes less time while preparing. On top of that, our product can
also save the cost of hiring workers or operators (staff).

One of the major feature that we added to the basic pancake toaster
was that its now automatic and does not need to be flipped over manually
by human, instead our product flips the pancake itself with a time set

specifically. This feature save time and is truly efficient. Besides that, if you
are opening a shop or stall that produces pancakes, due to expensive
manpower, this product of ours is your save of cost. It does not only save
cost but it also saves time consumption. Other than that, many times the
workers we hire are even not as efficient as machines, they are sometimes
lazy, slow and ineffective. Therefore, the use of machines to produce
multiple pancakes is the right choice to make.
2.2

Ishikawa Diagram

Lastly, we have used the Ishikawa Diagram to identify the causes and effect
of the problems that a pancake toaster has. The problems are such as:

CHAPTER 3
CREATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING

3.1

Identify the Goal, Wish or Challenge

The challenge we faced is to come out with the solution that the machine will run
smoothly and the food will cook perfectly. So we need to synchronize the timing when the food
is flip. So the goal to make that to become reality. We must improve our creativity skills and also
come out with innovative design of this multiple toaster.
We need to create something valuable, easy to operate, safe and affordable for the cyclist
to own. The economic merit of the creation is also a concern as we intended to make the multiple
toaster a profit to us. So we have to make sure that to be economically acceptable, product we
create must demonstrating a positive balance of long term benefits over long term costs.

3.2

Gather the Data

We investigated if there were similar multiple toaster on the market and there was none.
So the thought was that if we make one, we will be credited as the multiple toaster and create a
new market for different products.
We came out with various types of question such as: What needs to be created? Who will
be our customers? Where we should market the multiple toaster? When is the best time for the
marketing campaign to be started? How will the multiple toaster helps the users?

Who are the people we want to help:

people who want to make business

What is the problem:

Limitation of product produce
Where:
global

Why:
To make it easier to make any type of toaster such as pancake, sandwich, chapatti and
many more.
3.3

Clarify the Problem

The problem we wanted to solve is stated in different ways and different perspectives.
For example, What capital we need to have to produce multiple toaster?, Will it be a product
that is marketable and make a profit?
Our mission is to help people to make more profit and make them easier to handle their
business.

3.4

Generate Ideas

We brainstormed for practical design for our product, multiple toaster. Either it should be
created this way or that way, we translated our ideas onto papers and shared it among members
to be evaluated and critiqued so that we can detect any flaws in our ideas. We listed out the
practical features to be added to our design also.
We thought of a lot of ideas to make the multiple toaster as practical as possible. For
example, in our design, we added gears which is enable to flip the heater when the pancake is
cook. We also think of to put the buzzer or bell to give signal that the food is ready to serve.

3.4.1

Select, strengthen and solutions

In order to solve the task have been given. A lot of ideas have been generated and refine to make
a perfect result and product. There are a few designs of multiple toaster have been discussed. So
there must be a method to refine the ideas and choose the perfect design and that is morphology
chart.

Figure 2: Morphological Chart
After discussion, we make a decision to choose and finalize our design according to idea that are
in the table.
First of all for the shape of the design we choose the rectangular one because it can insert more
input. Then, it has two stage of heater to make sure the food is cook perfectly. After that, the
shape of plate heater is exchangeable, so we can change the heater to make other food than
pancake. Using electric as a source of heat is the best option because it is more safely compare to
gas. This multiple toaster will operate automatically to ease the user. This toaster have rollers for
make it easier to move.

From the table we can see that the first option have more rating star than the second and third
option. So we decided to choose the first option as the design of our project.

CHAPTER 4
IDEA DESCRIPTION

Based on idea we are proposed, the multiple toaster that come out with several
modification on previous model. Usually, the previous model only can only toast pancake with
minimum quantity according to specific time selected. The new modification we are include the
several tanks on the top of model. This tanks are used to store the raw of pancake flavor. The
applications of this new model of taster are it can automatic refill the raw pancake onto special
designed of pancake mold. This model also come up with two layer of burning side. So that, the
pancake will cooked completely. The two layer burner side will auto rotate so we will not waste
time to rotate it. The completed cooked pancake will falling at bottom of this model so that the
customer will not facing the difficulty to touch the hot pancake.
Compare to the previous toaster, this new modification model will fully utilized our time
to cook as many as can the pancake we need automatically. This model will rotate and work
automatically using electrical source energy. This new model also will work systematically as we
can see the flow of cook clearly behind the high heat resistance glass as the cover of this model.
If previous toaster only can make a pancake but this new modification model now can cook other
than pancake. Through this modification it can save more human energy and also time to cook
pancake in large quantity.

CONCLUSION
As conclusion we can make through our modification on previous pancake toaster, the new
modification toaster will reduce the time consume when making pancake in large quantity either
at home nor SME. The pancake maker duties will become easier than using previous toaster. If
we can see the fixtures that we added onto new modification toaster is flavor tanks, pancake
mold and rotatory heating process will help pancake maker reduced time consume, improved
pancake quantities and the way of pancake cooked completely as we needed. Therefore, by using
this new modification model customers/SME dont wasting their time in making a lot of pancake
with short period time and this kind of toaster can toasted other than pancake. As we can
concluded using this modification toaster will saving times. Through all this, some
recommendations need to be done for our product to improve it functionality. The
recommendations are:
i.

Improvise the design of product so that it become easy to carry from one place to other

ii.
iii.

place.
Put extra mold of pancake so that customer can change the shape of pancake as their like.
Add time device that connected to temperature sensor in heating pancake process so that
we can adjust time and temperature as we need.

So the sort of recommendations are been listed above need to be done further research so it can
valid to add in next modification. Lastly, the new product that we improvise almost solve several
problem that customer facing so we concluded that our product is success.
