Lesson Development:

Rhythm sticks
Shakers
Picture of a hill of at least A3 size
Picture card of a lake of at least A3 size
Song chart: The Bus is Going Up the Hill

Tuning-in:
1. Tell the children that they will be taking a bus up to the hill.
2. Show and lead the children to the obstacle.
3. Sing The Bus is Going Up The Hill with marching action. Have them move around the
room like a bus going up the hill.
4. Get children to sing The Bus is Going Around the Lake as they move around the lake
5. Continue moving until the children return to the bus interchange.

Children to use body percussion while singing The Bus is Going Up the Hill
Show and demonstrate to the children how to use the shakers and rhythm sticks.
Provide each child with an instrument to explore different ways of producing sounds.
Children to play the instruments while singing the song in different tempo: fast and slow
Children to exchange the musical instruments
Sing The Bus is Going Up the Hill again and get the children to follow your actions

with their instruments. i.e. play their instruments above their hands.
Closure:
1. Get the children to recall/ name the places the bus went after leaving the bus
interchange.
2. Ask children: which musical instrument do you prefer most?
