PROCEDURE
Introduction (_15_min.):
Hook/Attention Grabber: Explore a series of homemade instruments and discuss how the people who made
them might affect the pitch and loudness of their instrument.
Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: If you have something to say please raise your hand, listening
eyes and ears, when others are speaking you are not.
Transition to Body: Grab out green duotang and cross out their original sound producing devices
worksheet and direct them to the back of the book.
Body (30__min.):
Learning Activity #1: Review what we have learned about how sound travels and how sound is produced.
Sound is caused by vibrations, loudness is affected by force and difference, different materials vibrate
differently.
Learning Activity #2: Then we will brainstorm some sound producing devices (hopefully someone will say
a musical instrument), when instruments are mentioned we will explore some of the homemade instruments
that I have on the slides. We will discuss how the user would affect the sounds that the device will make
(How can you make it louder, how would the user affect the pitch)
Learning Activity #3: Students will begin to plan out their own musical instruments and explain its various
parts and pieces.
Closure ( __min.):
Feedback From Students:
Transition To Next Lesson; Students will continue to work on design, for next class they may begin
gathering materials for their musical instruments and bring them to the classroom to be stored for later.

Learning Activity #2: We will go over our worksheet once more. Once we have reviewed we will begin to
work on building our instruments. The expectation is that this will take the remainder of our time up. If
students completely built their instrument and fill out the rest of their worksheet they may decorate their
instruments.
Closure ( __min.):
Feedback From Students:
Transition To Next Lesson: Next lesson Students will complete their instruments and willing students may
demonstrate.
