The Thanksgiving Major
shootout was a good one as the
handicaps were close and 3 out of
the 4 players were looking for
their first LIGBT title. Pak got off
to a quick start by striking in his
first 4 out of 5 frames. Joe and
Michael stayed within 10 pins but
when they both opened in the 9th
frame Pak knew he had won his
first LIGBT title. The race for
second place wasnt decided until
the final shot as Joe needed a
strike but left a 7 count giving
Michael second place.

Walter Ray Williams Jr. Beats Pete Weber to Advance
Mike Shady Elected to USBC Hall of Fame
To PBA Shark Championship Round of 8
ARLINGTON, Texas The earned three National Collegiate
Indianas EJ Tackett advances to third GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VIII Round of 8
RENO, Nev. In a match featuring two of the
Professional Bowlers Associations all-time greats,
Walter Ray Williams Jr. beat Pete Weber at the
National Bowling Stadium to advance to the PBA
Shark Championship Round of 8.
Williams, the PBA Tours all-time career titles
leader with 47 wins, defeated Weber 3-0 (247-204,
247-209, 202-188) in the best-of-five-game single
elimination Round of 16 match. Weber continued to
battle through his hip injury but it may have proved to
have been too much to overcome in the match.
Hes been bowling great despite his injury so I had
to be ready for his best, Williams said. I think its
amazing what hes been able to do.
I really wasnt anticipating sweeping the match
but I was bowling well and I only missed the pocket a
few times so I was pretty dialed in to what I needed to
do, Williams added. Tomorrow I have two more
chances to make a (World Series) final so Im hoping
for the best.
Going into the GEICO PBA World Series of
Bowling VIII both Weber, who ranks fourth on the alltime PBA Tour titles list with 37 wins, and Williams
were tied with 99 combined titles in PBA Tour,
PBA50 Tour (Senior), PBA Regional and PBA50
Regional competition.
With his Round of 8 wins in the Shark and Cheetah
Championships, Williams is still alive in his quest for
the 100-title mark.
Every time I see these young guys out here, I sometimes ask myself what Im still doing out here, said
the 56-year-old Williams. Then I do something like
bowl well here at the World Series and I convince
myself I can still be competitive.
EJ Tackett of Huntington, Ind., who owns the top
berth for the PBA World Championship stepladder
finals, advanced to his third World Series final eight
by beating Dick Allen, of Columbia, S.C., 3-0. The
four-time Tour winner had previously qualified for the
semifinals in the Chameleon and Scorpion
Championships.
Im encouraged by being able to make the right
adjustments on different conditions but with the
Round of 8 to go theres still a lot of work to do, said
Tackett.
Andrew Cain of Phoenix, Ariz., the Shark
Championship qualifying leader, advanced to the
Round of 8 by winning his match 3-0 against 2016
USBC Masters champion Anthony Simonsen of
Austin, Texas.
Others advancing to the Shark Championship
Round of 8 were Tom Smallwood, Saginaw, Mich., 30; Francois Lavoie, Canada, 3-1; Markus Jansson,
Sweden, 3-1; Sam Cooley, Australia, 3-1, and
Matthew OGrady, South Amboy, N.J., 3-0.

EJ Tackett Advances to
PBA Chameleon Championship Round of 8
RENO, Nev. After a disappointing Round of 16 in the PBA Cheetah Championship presented by
PBA Challenge Mobile Game, EJ Tackett of Huntington, Ind., rebounded to advance to the Round
of 8 in the PBA Chameleon Championship presented by HotelPlanner.com at the National Bowling
Stadium.
Tackett, who has already earned the top qualifying berth for the PBA World Championship
stepladder finals, defeated 2016 U.S. Open winner Francois Lavoie of Canada 3-1 (248-226, 258214, 200-202, 286-267) in the Chameleon Championship best-of-five single elimination Round of
16 match.
Tackett found it tough going in the Cheetah Championship Round of 16 losing in three games.
I just bowled bad and blew it off, said the four-time Tour winner about the Cheetah Round of
16. I came into tonight trying to regroup by practicing a little more so I made sure I had my feet
under me.
I anticipated a tough match against Francois and thought I probably opened the door in the
fourth game, Tackett added. We were both playing the same part of the lane and had a good shot.
It was a good match and I felt fortunate to win it.
After just missing the PBA World Championship finals by finishing sixth, PBA Hall of Famer
Pete Weber of advanced to the Chameleon Round of 8.
Continuing to battle lingering pain after recently being diagnosed with scoliosis in his lower
back, Weber won the Round of 16 with a 3-1 (267-182, 258-268, 254-248, 263-227) win over
Canadian Patrick Girard.
Throwing the ball I feel great, said Weber, who ranks fourth on the PBA Tour all-time win list
with 37 titles. The pain is actually forcing me to stay upright at the (foul) line which keeps me
from chasing the ball down.
You probably couldnt tell it by looking at me but Im actually feeling better as the tournament
goes on. Im determined to finish this thing.
Weber is coming off a 2016 PBA50 Tour (for players 50 and over) season in which he earned
PBA50 Player of the Year honors winning a record six PBA50 Tour tournaments including four in
a row.
Also advancing to the Chameleon Championship Round of 8, were Patrick Dombrowski, Parma,
Ohio, 3-1; Thomas Larsen, Denmark, 3-0; Mitch Beasley, Clarksville, Tenn., 3-1; Brandon Novak,
Chillicothe, Ohio, 3-2; A.J. Johnson, Oswego, Ill., 3-2, and Mike DeVaney, Winchester, Calif., 31.
After the Round of 8, the top four players will advance to the ESPN Chameleon Championship
telecast will air Saturday, Dec. 24 at 1 p.m. ET.
