Configuration patterns overview

Support for X-Architecture compute nodes.
Configuration patterns allow for quick, step-bystep configuration of UEFI and IMM settings.
Define, store, and deploy to one or many
compute nodes.
Create configuration patterns from scratch or by
capturing parameters from existing compute
nodes.
Server pattern:
For compute nodes with a common hardware
configuration
For example, unique server patterns for
x220, x222, x240, and x440 compute nodes
Server profile:
Created when a server pattern is deployed to a
compute node
Unique for each compute node

Creating a configuration pattern (1 of 5)

To create a configuration pattern:
Log in to the FSM web interface.
From the IBM FSM Explorer menu, click
Systems and select Configuration Patterns.
From the Configuration Patterns: Getting
Started window, select Create a new server
pattern from an existing compute node.
You can also create a new pattern from
scratch from this selection.
If a configuration pattern for a specific
hardware platform already exists, select
Deploy an existing server pattern.
From the New Server Pattern Wizard General
tab, click the pencil icon next to Select a
starting point.
Select Create a new pattern from scratch.

Creating a configuration pattern (2 of 5)

From the Form Factor pulldown menu, select the form
factor for the server being
configured.
Specify a name for the server
pattern and an optional
description.
From the Local Storage tab,
select the local storage required.

Creating a configuration pattern (3 of 5)

From the I/O Adapters tab, you can select adapters to add to
the pattern.
Depending on the adapter, you can select specific features to enable
for the adapter.
Selecting Advanced Settings, adds a Min Bandwidth, Max
Bandwidth, and VLAN column to the table.

From the Boot tab, you can specify how the compute node should boot and the
order of the boot options.
If UEFI enabled operating systems are to be installed, select UEFI Only Boot to
shorten the boot time.
Otherwise select UEFI First, Then Legacy, or Legacy Only Boot.
Specify the Normal and Wake on LAN (WoL) Boot Order.
