2016-12-12 Guam War Claims Program Authorized by Congress
Many details still need to be developed in the coming months by the Foreign Claims Settlement
Commission at the Department of Justice, which Tamargo chaired for eight years until 2010. The
basic outline of the Program is four categories of claims and the amounts of awards are:
Death Claim
Award is $25,000, to certain heirs of those who died during the Japanese
occupation.
Rape or Severe Personal Injury
Award is $15,000, to certain survivors of the Japanese occupation who are still
living today and who suffered these relevant injuries.
Forced Labor or Personal Injury
Award is $12,000, to certain survivors of the Japanese occupation who are still
living today and who suffered these relevant injuries.
Forced March or Internment or In hiding
Award is $10,000, to certain survivors of the Japanese occupation who are still
living today who suffered these relevant injuries.
