Final Project

Directions:
There are three components to your final culminating project on Othello.
In groups of three (one group will have four) create a short film (four to six minutes) in which
you interpret Shakespeares Othello. Your films should not retell the events of Othello exactly as
they are in the text, but should demonstrate the intersection of your own experiences engaging
with the text and the various interpretations and readings we have done in class. Your film should
have a plot structure, setting, characters, and dialogue. You are free to interpret the text in any
way that you believe demonstrates that you have a thorough understanding of the text. 60% of
grade.
You will each turn in a written two-page reflection in which you list the contributions you made
to the film and your motivations for including them. Please include any contributions that did not
end up in the final product and explain your groups reasoning for excluding them. You should
support your decision with evidence from your annotations of Othello. 20% of grade
We will watch all of these film interpretations in class on February 2nd. You will take notes on
your classmates films and use these notes to evaluating how each version interprets Othello. We
will discuss your evaluations as a class on February 3rd. Participation in discussion and notes
20% of grade.
