Free fall

What is free fall?

Acceleration is equal to gravity
a=g
Gravity is always equal to 10m/s (9.8m/s)

Free Fall Conditions

Air resistance is negligible (do not calculate air
resistance)
Greater mass, greater gravitational force of attraction
between object and Earth

Example

Example

What is the object average speed and

acceleration if the object is falling initially at a
speed of 10m/s and ends at 20m/s?

Average Speed = average velocity over time

- (10+20)/2 = 15m/s
Acceleration = gravity
- 10m/s (9.8m/s)

Instaneous Speed
(additonal information)
When points of equal elevation in the path is the same
whether the object is moving upward or downward.
Highest point of free fall VELOCITY=0
