Expanded form:
Show me expanded form on your white boards. What do you remember? Tell me verbally.
On White board:
378 = 300 + 70 + 8
563 = 500 + 60 + 3
924 = 900 + 20 + 4
Box Method 2 digit by 1 digit:
We use expanded form in a box formation to help us multiply numbers.
Walk through the following example, showing and explaining each step at you go.
Ex: 48 x 9 =
9

40
360

8
72

360+72 = 432

180+81 = 261

Box Method 3 digit by 1 digit:

We can use the same method with three digit numbers
Ex: 679 x 8
8

600 70
4800 560

9
72

4800+560+72 = 5432
