Learning Objective:
-Identify changing textures between point of imitation, contrapuntal, and
homorhythmic

Participatory Activity:
1. Discussion about the similarities and differences surrounding the pieces.
2. Row, Row Your Boat first in rounds (to demonstrate point of imitation style
composition) then as one ensemble (homophonic texture)
3. Describe contrapuntal texture as the third option thats really hard to sing
as a class on Row Row Your Boat, then isolate examples in the score (Ave
Maria, measures 21-25, 43-48, 65-73) and play specific examples.

Post-Assessment:
Play Josquin Du Prez- Kyrie from Missa Pange Lingua
Discuss compositional techniques employed
Summary:
As the tradition of chant fell out vogue with renaissance composers they looked for
new strategies to create polyphony and melody, each new strategy was as typical of
its proper era as chant was of the medieval era.
