Collaboratively develop test taking strategies.

Participatory Activity:
Collaborative Midterm
-Play listening examples from Dr. Bick
-List ALL items that could be said about each example after listening (Binchois
Rondeau and Offertory Hic Est Marcialis)
-Listen to examples again
-Hand out Midterm Answer Sheet provided by Dr. Bick.
*Debrief moment* Dr. Bick is a professional musicologist, make sure mentees are
aware that listing every possible item on her answer sheet is practically impossible,
and should not be used as a check list to see if they got an A.
Listening Activity
-Play a film music clip (Up, X-men First Class)
-Discuss elements of instrumentation, and melody and how it contributes to the
narrative.
Post-Assessment:
Are we feeling better about the traumatic event from two days ago (the midterm,
not the election).
Summary:
Dr. Bicks answer sheet demonstrates the broad range of possible responses to the
midterm, hopefully demonstrating additional elements mentees could include in
future test responses. The film music activity uses critical language to connect the
language that they are assimilating; essentially the low-impact aerobics of music
analysis.
