SOME OF THE FACTORS PROMOTING CORROSION IN STAINLESS STEEL:

Presence of Iron and Chlorides in process fluid and low pH (i.e. Acidic pH)
Presence of Micro organism which causes Microbiological Influenced Corrosion
in Stainless Steel
Presence of Excessive Carbon leads to Sensitization & Inter Granular
Corrosion (Carbon reacts with Chromium and forms Chromium Carbide and
hence Chromium is depleted to form as Chromium Oxide)
Usage of Grinding, Machining other Cleaning tools which was used on Carbon
Steel Surface.
Presence of Free Iron Particles on surface of Stainless Steel
Presence of Weld Heat tint Layer & Oxidization during welding (Improper
Purging)
Incomplete Weld Penetration, Fusion, presence of Sharp Edges and Poor
Surface finish Leads to Crevice Corrosion
Presence of Scales, Dirt, Oil, Grease and other foreign particles
