Title:

Family Flag

Summary/Purpose

To promote the importance and bonds of family by having the


students draw a family flag where they include the people they
consider to be the most important members of their family.

Time Frame:

20 minutes

Procedure:

1. Gather students around the stairs in the library.


2. Review the rules and expectations of the lesson including quiet
signals (hands raised)
3. Ask the students: what is family?
4. Discuss with the students who would be considered part of a
family (relatives or friends)
5. Tell them the activity
6. We will create our own posters that show the members of our
family that have had the most impact on our lives
7. You can include other people that are important to you (friends,
pets, teachers)
8. You can decorate the flag however you want (you may also
include things associated with people on the flag such as sports,
events)
9. Work for 10 minutes
10. Have everyone come back together
11. Have students share their flags; explain why they chose the
people included
12. Wrap up questions
