White Balance
SUN

When your subject is in direct sunlight. Best to use on bright, sunny days,
when the sun is high in the sky. Think about photos on the beach or in a
park.

SHADE

The day may be incredibly sunny, but your subject might be under an awning
of a porch or under a tree.

CLOUDY

On a cloudy day! While the sun is still in the sky, its covered with clouds
which act as a huge light box! The clouds diffuse the light, allowing colors
to pop.

TUNGSTEN
or
INCANDESCENT

These lights have a warm, yellow tone. It is the studio lights we


use in class, as well as most lightbulbs used in homes.

FLUORESCENT

Lights typically used in school or in offices; can cause a greenish


cast to photos if WB is not set properly.

FLASH

Use if you will be using a flash on or off camera. Remember, for


our class photos you will do your best to always use natural light.

ISO
ISO 100 ...... Outside on bright sunny days
ISO 200 ...... Outside on cloudy days
ISO 400 ...... Inside in a moderately lit room (1 or more windows or overhead light)
or Outside in the late afternoon, as the sun begins to set
ISO 800 ...... Inside in a poorly lit room
or Outside as the sun is setting
ISO 1600 ......Inside in a room with almost no available light
or Outside at night
