Maximum Marks:100

Duration: 3 Hrs
Part A (10*2=20)

1. Mention the objectives of short circuit analysis?

2. Write the symmetrical components of a three phase system.
3. Give the frequency of various faults occurrence in ascending order.
4. Distinguish symmetrical and unsymmetrical faults.
5. What is meant by Short circuit capacity?
6. List out the methods of reducing short circuit current.
7.Draw the Zero sequence network corresponding to Y grounded-delta connected transformer?
8. Draw the sequence network connections corresponding to DL-G fault at bus.
9. Define Zero and negative sequence impedance
10.Write the matrix notation of the operator a which relates the phasors I a,Ib,Ic with Ia0,Ia1,Ia2.

Part-B (5*16=80)
11. a) With the help of a detailed algorithm ,explain how a symmetrical fault can be analyzed by using
Z-bus.
OR
b) For the radial network shown in figure, 3 phase fault occurs at F. Determine the fault current and
the line voltage at 11 KV bus under fault condition. (16)

12.a) Derive the necessary equation to determine the fault current for a line- line fault. Draw a diagram
showing the interconnection of sequence networks.

(16)

OR
b) A synchronous generator and motor are rated 30 MVA,13.2KV both have sub transient reactance of
20%,the reactance of line is 10% and the base of machine ratings. The motor is drawing 20,000 KW at 0.8
pf (leading) antd terminal voltage Vt of 12.8KV. When a symmetrical short circuit fault occurs at the
motor terminals, find the subtransient current in generator, motor and at the fault points.

b) A three phase ,5MVA ,6.6KV alternator with a reactance of 8% is connected to a feeder of series
impedance of (0.12+j0.48 ) ohms/phase per km. The transformer is rated at 3 MVA, 6.6KV/33KV and has
a reactance of 5%. Determine the fault current supplied by the generator operating under no-load with a
voltage of 6.9KV,when a 3-ph symmetrical fault occurs at a point 15km along the feeder. (16)

14.a) Derive the necessary equation to determine the fault current for a Double line-ground fault. Draw
a diagram showing the interconnection of sequence networks.

b) A generator is connected through a five cycle circuit breaker to a transformer is rated 100
MVA,18KV with reactances X d=20%,Xd=25% and Xd=110%. It is operated on no-load and at a rated
voltage. When a 3-phase fault occurs between the breaker and the transformer, find
