Abstract

Wilde Women is a site dedicated to making this less queer side of Wilde scholarship
more accessible, to decentralized Wilde studies from his sexuality and the colorful life he lived to
this oft neglected aspect his workWilde as proto-feminist and Wilde as a writer of many a kind
of women which reflected his diverse view the female race. It presents Oscar Wildes female
characters as either a Lover of Guardian type. In doing so, it shows that while Wildes women
characters often do no play the role of the protagonist, they are a major force still in the story as
they oft provide the motivations or the foundation of the plot. Wilde Women also includes
background information on influential women in Wildes life, his mother and his wife, and brief
information on his time as editor-in-chief of what would be regarded as a proto-feminist
magazine, The Womans World. Lastly, the site provides a list of materials for further reading and
unaffiliated Wilde-centric web sites for more Oscar Wilde tools.
