Respiratory and Nervous Systems

By Sophia Galleguillos, Eliza Roesler, Eva Brandis, Augi

Soto, and Emma Reid

Respiratory System
The main function of the respiratory system is to take in
oxygen and to release carbon dioxide.
Primary organ is the lungs, but it also includes the
pharynx, larynx, bronchi, alveoli, and the trachea

Nervous System
The main function of the nervous system that they have
specialized cells called neurons that transmit signals
throughout the body
Its made up of the brain, spinal
cord, and nerves
Impulses are sent to and from the
brain from other parts of the body

How They Interact

Impulses are sent to the brain from the lungs.
The neurons in the brain interpret these impulses and send
instructions back.
For example, if you were breathing quickly an impulse
would be sent to you brain saying so. Your brain would
then interpret this and send an impulse back with
instructions to slow down.

Our Model

How Our
Model
Shows The
Systems

1. Breathing in the Lungs:

Pulling the bike pump up of the blue side represents
inhaling oxygen and pushing the bike pump down on
the dark side represents exhaling carbon dioxide.

2. Neurons Transmitting in the Brain:

The Newtons cradle in the water bottle represents
the neurons transmitting messages to other neurons
in in the brain.

3. Impulses sent from Lungs to Brain and

Vice Versa:
When the blue slinky moves it represents an impulse
being sent to the brain. When the purple slinky
moves, it represents an impulse being sent from the
brain back to the lungs.
