Arizona State University 2016 Dumpster Dive


[In the late morning hours, President Michael Crow stands flanked by Leilani Mnter and
Sparky the Sun Devil announcing the start of ASUs most exciting event. Leilanis Go 100%
Renewable Energy Race Car proudly positioned behind the group, with the Sun Devil Fitness
Complex looming over them. Anxious teams of students and faculty members draped in maroon
and gold waiting for their cuethe loud pop of the starting gun sending teams into a frenzy,
launching themselves into the various trash bins that cross their path, rummaging for recyclables
and parading their newfound treasures back to their growing piles.]
ABOUT THE EVENT:
As part of their commitment to sustainability and zero-waste efforts, Arizona State University
will be hosting their annual Dumpster Dive on America Recycles Day (ARD). Students will be
split into two teams and compete against each other to recover recyclable items that were tossed
in the regular trash across the campus. Each team will have one hour to pile up the potential
recyclables, after time is up each pile will be evaluated by a judge and items that do not qualify
will be removed. The team with the most items remaining wins the coveted Green Trophy and
free Canes for a year.

Tuesday, November 15th 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Arizona State University-West Campus
4701 W. Thunderbird Rd.
Glendale, AZ 85306
ATTENDEES:
All who wish to attend are welcome, those who wish to participate can sign up by filling out the
form on ASUs Green Initiative website. The event is free, and guests will have the chance to
meet ASUs President: Michael Crow, and Sparky the Sun Devil. Also in attendance will be
American race car driver and environmental activist: Leilani Mnter.
EVENT GOALS:

Celebrate America Recycles Day (ARD)


Raise awareness about our environment, and how to properly care for it
Encourage students and faculty to participate in the universitys life-long green initiative
