Major claim/Thesis: The short story

The Most Dangerous Game is more effective at


communicating the theme of the story, kill or be
killed than the movie version because of significant
variations in the setting, characters, and plot
necessitated by the genre.

Claim 1: The differences between the setting of the book and movie are clear
to make out.

Setting The setting of the book is better described in the book than the movie.

Data/Evidence:
Rainsford used different traps in the book than the movie.

Warrant(s):
In the book on the first night Rainsford's trap was just a trail to lead Zaroff away in the
movie he set up a tree trap. In the third day of the book Rainsford set up a trap in the
swamp in the third night of the movie he just sets up a sharp piece of wood that stabs
Ivan.

Data/Evidence:
Zaroff describes the land of the island better in the book than the movie.

Warrant(s):
In the movie Zaroff sends Rainsford and Eve off without any explanation of the
surrounding area. In the book Rainsford is told to stay clear of the swamp because of the
quicksand.

Claim 2:

After watching the movie and reading the story the characters in
the story are more explained and used better
Characters (opinion statement about it) The characters in the story vs the characters in
the movie are a lot different in many ways.

Data/Evidence:
In the book Zaroff is a general but in the movie he is a count.

Warrant(s):
The difference this makes is as a general Zaroff would have a war type background and
would be good with fighting, as a count he just happens to be an expert with hunting and
guns.

Data/Evidence:
In the book Eve did not exist.

Warrant(s):
The difference this makes is in the book Rainsford was fighting for a way to get off the
island and his life in the movie he is fighting for Eve and his life.

Claim 3:
Plot: The plot of the book was more suspenseful than the plot of the movie.

Data/Evidence:
Rainsford is found multiple times

Warrant(s):
Analysis of how/why difference shows one version to be more effective
Summary connecting data to claim. The book Zaroff toys with Rainsford when he finds
him making Rainsfords last day very suspenseful.

Data/Evidence:
In the book Rainsford is given three hours to run but in the movie he is giving a full day.

Analysis of how/why difference shows one version to be more effective
Summary connecting data to claim. This changes the story for the three hours give
Rainsford less time to think of what to do on day one. While the full gives him a lot of
time to think of what he wants to do and time to prepare it.
