Australia is a big country with a small population. There are only
five countries bigger tan Australia in the world but the

The population isnt very big because a lot of the land in
Australia is desert and rainforest and its difficult to live in those

coast because the life is easier and healthier than in the inland towns.
Most of the bigger cities, such as Melbourne and
Sydney, are in the south and south east of Australia.
They are busier and more exciting than the cities in
other areas and the climate is better.
The north is usually hotter and drier than the south.
Cities, like Cairns, are quieter and more relaxed.

7. Read. What do these animals steal?
Some people consider squirrels to be cute and harmless, but to
gardeners, they are public enemy N1. Squirrels are very intelligent
and persistent animals. When you combine these qualities with a
hungry belly and a tendency to live alongside humans, there can be a
good bit of conflict between squirrels and homeowners over flowers,
vegetables and fruit trees.
In one of the most bold examples of theft in the animal kingdom,
hyenas are capable of driving a lion away from its kill. It travels in
groups of up to 80 individuals and when it comes upon a larger
carnivore it swoops in to steal the meat with the help of its clan.
Hyenas often hunt collectively, which means stealing is no problem.
Known as the pirates of the seashore, gulls are naturally aggressive
and competitive birds. They steal food from each other, other bird
species or even sea otters if given the opportunity. Because gulls
cannot dive for fish, they must steal from those species.
