Attached is my report for SAP 2000, regarding a design process for a 10-story building
and its variations of deflections, shear, and moment with applications of dead and live
loads. This lab was performed on Friday, November 25th, 2016 and is being submitted
Monday, December 5th, 2016. This lab report is based on data that was calculated using
Tributary area methods and basic intermediate skills of SAP 2000.
The attached report includes the observations, results and discussion of the overall lab
performed. Overall, SAP 2000 has allowed students to apply theoretical knowledge
learned in class to a hands-on computer software that will help them as future
engineers.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the attached report, please do not
hesitate to contact me at any time. I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,
Maheen Sani

There was a total for Two (2) cases that were considered. The following are the combinations of
loads that the building experienced to determine joint displacements, shear, axial and moment
magnitudes.

Discussion:
The most critical deflection in the structure occurs when the load distribution of combination one
(dead + live loads everywhere) occurs. This result was expected as this combination deforms the
structure with more loads while the chessboard arrangement reduces the total load experienced
by each floor. The values of deflections in mid-spans of all exterior south beams are plotted and
displayed in the tables above. In addition to deflection, axial, moment and shear diagrams of
columns 1 and 5 are also shown with the two combinations of loads in the Appendix.
4.0 Appendix
The following appendix consists of Column 1 and Column 5 diagrams of axial, shear and moment
diagrams. Additional excel files consisting of magnitudes of these forces has been uploaded to
learn.lassonde.yorku.ca.
