Introduction
In 1996, Satsvarupa dasa Goswami began collecting all
his writings under the one series title of Every Day, Just
Write (EJW). Each volume of this series has a thematic
title and is printed either as a single volume or in a book
containing two or three volumes. EJW became the one
big book of my life.
Whats Going On Here? Krsna Conscious Cartoons is
a collection of drawings composed between 1999 and
2002 alongside EJW. The cartoons present both a visual
diary and a prayer for the literary work. As time went on,
Satsvarupa dasa Goswami expanded many of the
drawings into large, exuberant acrylic paintings. But here
we present the cartoons.
Cartoons, of course, are usually a light, humorous
genre, yet when drawn by a Krsna conscious artist, they
inevitably contain the weight of philosophical messages.
In Whats Going On Here? almost every page contains an
underlying philosophical message messages that
Satsvarupa dasa Goswami has imbibed from his spiritual
master, Srila Prabhupada. The messages appear here as
they appear in life: not always clearly stated, and usually
set within the humor or pain of our lives. This collection
thus brings us closer to the artists outreaching hands as
he extends himself to join with us.
