Curriculum Review Update

Review Team Updates: Math, Soc. Studies, and World Language

Kelsey and Marcie have meet once with the math group. They will recap at
the next one. The curriculum review team is made up of every building and
grade level. Various different groups. Spent looking at overview of what
standards are and where they come from. Spent time prioritizing. A lot of
alignment work was spent. A lot of time will be spent aligning the breaks ()
and (8/9). Fact fluency needs to have more PD -- as it is not best practice.
The only assessment is time test -- right now use them for the report card in the spring they can use games and other strategies to practice. Capacity
is an issue -- not changing things too quickly.
Secondary - working on alignment so that there is not a lot of overlapping. Look at
different resources that align in the spring.
SS - in year 4 of the cycle - they will look at what supplemental resources and how they
are aligning.
SS - elementary meeting was put off due to workload issues.
World Language - looking at level from middle to high school
Media Center - working on standards for them. How can the media center embed itself
in where the standards are around digital learning. Looking at wealth of standards and
consistency.

Elementary Report Card Changes

Teachers can share ahead with families. Rachel is working on a communication
document that would go out with the first report card.
The new report card will work along with the new infinite campus.
Common Summative Assessment Work Group
Work groups out of DIT -- clarify what a CSA is -- in phase 2 teachers come together to
create CSA. There are some problems with differences in understanding this term.
Course Waiver Work Group
How to provide course work that happens outside of Bloomington Public Schools. There
are court documents that drive this decision.

Workload concerns and plans to address - feedback (Eric)

Workload: Eric meets with Kelley Rachel and Jenna every Monday. Through
discussions with Wendy and principals and others there is a definite concern about the
work load issue. There are areas that are being looked at. It appears that it is more in
Elementary. We are holding off on illuminate - ELA can serve that progress monitoring.
Communication about end of unit evaluation. Folks sometimes need permission to use
professional judgement.
NTL - John Weisser - some things that we cant avoid. It is a lot for folks to manage. Not

everyone is as quick. It is not well defined.

Plan is to get communication out before Thanksgiving break to help ease anxiety.
Eric is working to set up meetings with teachers to find out about workload.
All the stuff we are trying to do is good -- it is a lot.
Feedback - thankful that things are being taken away, looking at PD options, some of it
is contract related. Teachers need a promise or guarantee that this is it for the next few
years.
Eric is thinking about attending staff meetings to build capacity with staff.
