Positive Teacher Language

As a teacher it is important to remember that are words and tone are a tool
to promote student learning. Our words can make or break a sense of
community. The way we talk to our students can teach self-discipline. If we
use positive language it promotes positive behavior. Our words should be
encouraging and positive. Everything we say should show the students that
we believe in them and their potential. Part of positive teacher language is
being direct. We should always use reinforcing language to reinforce positive
behaviors. When doing this we must name specific behaviors, use a warm
tone, find positives in all students and name the progress we see with our
students. When a child is off task or not behaving the way they should we
should use positive reminding and redirecting language. The more you use
positive language with the students the more of a relationship you will build
with them.
