Disinfection of the Family DR Uric Acid Device v2.0

Preparation Materials

A pair of latex/plastic/nitrile gloves is optional. It is permitted and acceptable


to use a pair of heavy rubber gloves commonly used in washing dishes to
perform disinfection of this POCT device.
10% Bleach solution (non-scented). See disinfection solution SOP for
compounding instructions.
A plastic tray to hold disinfected and cleaned materials/device(s).
Clean paper towels.
New Cotton bud/gauze
Lab glasses (optional if operator wears eyeglasses)
Spray bottle (plastic)

Wash and dry hands in accordance with Viva Generik SOP.


Don a pair of heavy rubber gloves (recommended) or latex/plastic/nitrile
gloves (optional) after verifying integrity by checking for pinhole leaks or
tears. Place a clean paper towel(s) on counter.
Take the spray bottle and add 10% bleach solution compounded at a 1:9 ratio.
Use a cotton ball/gauze moistened by spray the disinfectant solution (not
dripping wet)
Wipe the interior and exterior of the storage tray.
Don a pair of heavy rubber gloves (recommended) or latex/plastic/nitrile
gloves (optional) after verifying integrity by checking for pinhole leaks or
tears. Place a clean paper towel(s) on counter.
Use a cotton ball/gauze moistened by the disinfectant solution (not dripping
wet) in the spray bottle. Wipe the interior and exterior surfaces of the storage
tray with the disinfectant solution.
Allow the storage tray to air dry on top of the paper towel.
Wipe the exterior surfaces of the meter with the disinfectant solution using a
cotton ball/gauze or clean towel. Be careful and do not allow an excessive
amount of disinfection material to be applied to the test strip port of the
meter. This may accelerate corrosion of the electrical contacts.
Place the cleaned meter into the storage tray and allow to dry thoroughly
prior to putting the device away.
Clean heavy rubber gloves with some of the 10% bleach solution and allow to
dry.
Dispose of used latex/plastic/nitrile gloves if they were used in a biohazard
container along with used cotton ball/gauze items.
Complete the disinfection log entry for each cleaning procedure performed.
